An ultra-high definition, 2K video was released by NASA astronaut Jeff Williams earlier this year. Recorded from the International Space Station, it showed our planet as a pale blue dot. Still, it’s some of the most mesmerizing footage of planet Earth that has ever been recorded.
The video also features Williams, who describes what it’s like to observe our planet from space, and the importance of sharing this exclusive view with others.
Not rarely do you hear that a person’s perspective on the universe, and life in general changes drastically after they see the minuteness of our planet in space. Although the video is recorded from the International Space Station, rather than the moon, former NASA astronaut – Edgar D. Mitchell’s quote possibly best describes it:
“You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch.” ― Edgar D. Mitchell
