As advanced as western medicine is at the moment, we’ve yet to discover the proper ways to treat certain chronic pains and discomforts in different parts of the body. We rely mostly on pills, ointments and creams but they’re rarely effective. Alternative medicine, on the other hand, is much more advanced in this area, and is often considered light-years ahead especially when it comes to pain-relieving. Every health expert would recommend a combination of the two approaches, taking the appropriate medications whilst practicing some alternative treatment as well and it may be the best route to follow whenever you’re in doubt.
In this article we’re going to focus on reflexology and its benefits – an alternative method for pain relief which has been used for centuries in the Middle East. Reflexology relies on the principle that there are pressure points on the palm of your hand which are connected to certain body parts and that by pressing on those points you’ll relieve the pain and discomfort in the appropriate body part. First you need to learn which pressure point is connected to which body part, find the one that corresponds to the part that’s causing you pain. Then you should press the thumb into the corresponding part of the hand for 5 seconds, release for 3 seconds, press again and repeat this cycle for several minutes, several times a day and you will get amazing results.
Below you can see a video in which Dr. Oz discusses with his guest, who is a reflexologist, different techniques for pain relief. The reflexologist explains how both the hands and feet can be seen as a microcosm of our entire body and how you can relieve any pain just by applying pressure on the suitable pressure points. Then Dr. Oz calls upon 5 guests from the audience to try out this routine and see for themselves how effective it is. The audience members in this video suffered from constipation and bloating, insomnia and exhaustion, sinus congestion, upper back pain and low libido.
The reflexologist taught them how to use reflexology to resolve their problem or pain. She also explained what sensations they would experience as they applied pressure and massage so that they would know they’re doing it right. It’s amazingly easy to follow, watch it and try it out!
